Leading is Hard

First off, I am impressed with Fracture. He seems to have recovered from whatever was in the cylinder rather fast. Granted I haven’t seen a lot of him around, he keeps sneaking of to somewhere. But when I do see him he is chipper and impatiently awaiting orders.

That brings us to the more title related topic; I’m struggling with this order giving thing. It’s kind of a pain in the ass. I realize the merits of team work and getting shit done faster and more effectively but when I look at my squad I really want to just tell them to go home and then hunt the marks myself.

I mean, what if they do it wrong? What if the mark gets away? What if they get the wrong person? What if they miss something important on the corpse?

Fracture tells me that it’s my job to train them to make sure they do it right. I was unaware leading them made me their mentor as well. That can’t be right. No one trains collectors. You get the list and you figure it out or die. That’s really what it comes down to. Besides, the idea of training my own replacement kind of sickens me. If I’m going to be replaced I’d prefer it be by someone who found the strength by their own merit.

In fact the more I think about it the more I think that is what this really is. They are having me train my own replacements. I want to go run the both of them through and see if either of them are worthy of that. I already know Firecracker isn’t. I don’t hold high prospects for mister never talks ever.

I… need to calm the fuck down.

So I’ve been doing all the hunting on my own. I think that was the point I was trying to get out. The list is getting out of hand though. Four red marked names came up last night, each with the same 24 hour time limit. That is insanely unheard of in my experience. I've never seen anything listed beyond a yellow and I certainly had lots more time to deal with the situation than this.

I can’t get all of them, they are too spread out. I think Fracture might have fucked with my list to create this situation. I mean he can apparently have my list locked out, I don’t see why he couldn’t fuck with its listings. I’m sending Firecracker and Trent to deal with the two out of town marks, Fracture is going to track one of our local names for us, and I’m going take out the remaining guy with the bold printed name. “Creeger.”

Fracture, I swear to god if I find out you are fucking with my list I will break your legs again.

No more time to waste writing.
It’s time to kill Creeger.
Swan out.

  1. Goosey boy... Training your own replacement is a kind of immortality. Don't you think? Passing along your skills and knowledge to another ensures that a part of you lives for ever. Your flame continuing to burn in the ethereal void for eternity. So long as the knowledge that you pass down exists
OH and Fracture. If you are fucking with his list, give him one of those... Paranoid, Shotgun-behind-the-door, misanthropic, veteren runners to kill. Force him to work with his new Team to bring the target down. Hehehehehe.

    1. A single candle can light a thousands others... that makes sense. I don't know if that applies to collectors. It's an inherited position. The application process consists of killing a current one.

I could teach them how to survive the job for once they finally acquire the position and then send them to kill and become my competition. Or they'll stab me in the back on the way out the door and replace me outright...

I don't know, I think I'd sooner earn my immortality in a moment of unforgettable rage. Call me old fashioned I guess?

Oh, and that is what Creeger was. EVERY single door and window was rigged with a trap. Stupid shit destroyed himself in his panic.

  2. Of course he's fucking with your list, angry bird. do you expect any different from him?

anyways, have fun killing Creeger. Just remember, people with actual names tend to be more...plot-important.

    1. I expect him to be a bastard,... so no, I figure he's fucking with my list.

And they all have names, Creeger's was just bolded so I guess he was... plottier?

    2. You mean he plots to kill people...
      Or plots something...
      Yes?

    3. Wasn't sure. I grabbed some papers and books before I set the place on fire to see what I could find out.

    4. Did you find anything worthy of note?
      Or was it just rantings?
      I am curious. :)

    5. Found a coded book in the pile of stuff I grabbed. I couldn't read most of it, just a few names and dates. Passed it on to Fracture. He can figure it out, I could be bothered.

    6. I half expected you to say you burned it.
      How unlike you, my friend.

    7. I collect runner journals. Old habit. I like to think of it like keeping trophies.

    8. Of everyone you killed?
      You must show me sometime.
It must be interesting to say the least.

    9. Not everyone keeps a book, especially not nowadays. But I have a collection spread out to a few places.

    10. Maybe when we next meet.
      It would be good.

    11. I suppose if they keep blogs you can collect their laptops?

    12. Well that would be more for practical reasons. I struggle with electronics a little. As often as I throw this laptop, I could use a new one.

  3. Swan, if you wish to do the kills yourself then think of training and treating your team as an extension of yourself. As you train them, they train you. It benefits everyone. In order to this however, you may have the break some of them (i.e. Fracture). As much as it pains me to do so, I've had to do it once in while. But once you and your team can function as one, you having the capabillity of becoming a force to be reckoned with. It is similar to how Gleeman, Jack the Ripper, Brown Recluse, and Crouching Tiger function in Morningstar's group. And yet when we had that replacment Morningstar in our ranks, they seemed well...not at 100% you could say. He was certainly a poor leader.

To sum it up, while you strike seperately, you should function as one.

    1. I don't know if I need any training. I'm pretty awesome... you know, until I live to long and I'm not. And I would break Fracture if I thought I could get away with it, I think I have orders not to.

I'll settle for us just functioning... or murder. I might still just kill them.

  4. ... Ha. Didn't take you long to figure out that this whole system was about. Why do you think talented transfers cause so much suspicion? Why do you think that they don't assign leaders who would be the best for the job, but rather the ones who hold rather... unique abilities? This isn't about organization or protection or anything of the sort.

    It's manufacturing. Experimentation.

Or, at least, that's what I would say if I was sure of such a thing! Perhaps I misjudged you, Duck. For all the rambling you do have a brain in your head.

Try to keep yourself in one piece.
